The senator claimed that Duterte’s apology regarding the “ridiculous” drug matrix expresses serious doubts on the government’s intelligence authority. She questioned the reliability of the reports sent by barangay officials and other sources to the Philippine National Police concerning its war against illegal drugs. “It is tragic that the highest official of the land has not only been fed lies and wrong information but also has listened to rumors and intrigues,” de Lima said. Last August, Duterte released the said drug matrix linking de Lima to illegal drugs and showing her connection with some drug convicts. On Tuesday, however, he admitted errors in the matrix and apologized to the three Pangasinan officials who were inaccurately accused. ‘Murderous policy’ De Lima likewise asserted that the “riot” that took place at the New Bilibid Prison’s Building 14 on Wednesday morning was done by the government to persuade drug convicts to testify against her. “If this is the case, this means that we have reached a new level of murderous policy in this government,” she said. With the absence of “reliable information” concerning the matter, de Lima is not disregarding the possibility that the incident happened to “serve as a lesson to those who refuse to cooperate with the government and do [Justice Secretary Vitaliano] Aguirre’s and Malacañang’s bidding.” She pleaded Malacañang to stop its “tragic, desperate, and despicable” moves. The prison incident killed convicted drug lord Tony Co and injured three other drug convicts – Jaybee Sebastian, Peter Co, and Vicente Sy.
